Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel
Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel was one of the senior leaders of the Indian National Congress and he was among the founders of the Indian Republic. Vallabhbhai Jhaverbhai Patel was born on 31 October 1875 in a place called Nadiad which is in the Gujrat state. His mother's name was Ladba and his father was Jhaverbhai.
Jhaverbhai the father of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel was a farmer, he had participated in the first war of Indian Independence as a soldier with Rani Laxmi Bai the queen of Jhansi. Sardar Patel completed his primary education in a local school, and he also helped his father in farming. From childhood, Sardar Patel was very intelligent, and he was very dedicated to his work and he always use to raise his voice against ignorance. And to help others he wanted to become a lawyer.
In spite of the financial difficulties, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel studied hard to became a lawyer. He didn't had books to study, he use to borrow books for his friends. And with his soul dedication, he cleared the district level exam. He started advocating in the Godhra district of Gujrat. In 1902 he came to Valsad where he did successful criminal advocacy for eight years, which made him financially stable.
After becoming financially stable he got married to Jhaverba, he had two kids. In 1910 he went to London for his higher education, where he did top in the exam. He returned back to India and started doing advocacy in Ahmedabad.
When Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel met Mahatma Gandhi Ji in 1917 his life got changed, Sardar Patel was very much influenced by Gandhi Ji's thoughts on independent India and his ideology of Ahimsa. In 1989 there was a severe drought, due to which farmers requested the British government to forgive the taxes, but they denied. Sardar Patel bought the farmers together and under his leadership government agreed to forgive tax for this time, this was his successful movement.
In 1928 there was a major farmer movement in Bardoli, which was called Bardoli satyagraha. This farmer movement was carried under the leadership of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. Farmers won this movement and the British government had to bow before farmers. After winning this satyagraha under the leadership of Vallabhbhai Jhaverbhai Patel people started calling him by the name of "Sardar", which means leader.
Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel did many revolts against the British government. In 1942 he actively participated in the Quit India movement by Mahatma Gandhi, and because of this, he was put behind the bars many times.
Before Independence India was divided into 584 states, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel did efforts to unite these states as he wanted to make India one entity so he told all states to be together and stand against the British for Indian Independence. The states we see today are only because of his efforts, and due to this reason he is called "Iron Man of India".
In 1947 Sardar Patel was the first Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister of independent India. He was a mentor for forming "IAS" and "IPS" services. On 15 December 1950, he died due to a heart attack. At his funeral, more than 10 lakh people were gathered. Because of his work he was honored with the Bharat Ratna award.
Many schools and colleges are working under his name in India. In Gujrat near Sardar Sarovar Dam which is built on the Narmada river, the statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel which is the tallest statue in the world has been built, it is world-famous by the name of "Statue of Unity". 31 December the birthday of Sardar Patel is celebrated as the "National Unity Day".
